AI Product Design

Design systems for products with AI inside them

Tell us about your project

The Phoenux way

Phoenux builds component libraries that handle output which varies: confidence, citations, partial results, regeneration, and the cases where nothing comes back.

An AI-native design system is a component library built for content that is generated at runtime rather than decided at design time.

Detail

Designing for dynamic content

Your design system assumes the content is fixed

Traditional components are designed against content that is known in advance. AI output is not. It arrives late, varies in length, sometimes needs a source beside it, and sometimes does not arrive at all.

Retrofitting that into a system built for static content is exactly where AI features start to look bolted on: inconsistent loading, no way to show uncertainty, five different retry patterns.

What we build

  1. 01

    Certainty states

Components that can say "probably" without either overclaiming or undermining the feature.

  2. 02

    Citation patterns

Where evidence sits relative to the claim, and how it behaves when there is not any.

  3. 03

    Partial results

Layouts that hold their shape while content arrives, so the page does not jump as the model writes.

  4. 04

    Iteration & feedback

One consistent way to retry, refine, correct, and flag, instead of five per product area.

  5. 05

    Failure and fallback

What the interface shows when the model returns nothing, times out, or refuses.

What you get

A flexible AI design system with clear patterns, stable layouts, and practical guidance your team can build on.

Deliverable
  1. 01

Components specified for variable output, not fixed content

  2. 02

One documented pattern per behavior, covering retry, cite, correct, and fail

  3. 03

Layout rules that hold under streaming, so nothing shifts as content arrives

  4. 04

Usage guidance your engineers can build against directly

  5. 05

An extension path for your existing system, where a rebuild is not warranted

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a new design system, or can our current one be extended?+

Extended, in most cases, and Phoenux will tell you which yours is. Rebuilding a system that mostly works is rarely the right spend, and the usual answer is a set of AI-specific components layered onto what you already have.

What makes a design system AI-native?+

Components built for output that varies. Phoenux designs for confidence levels, citations, streaming and partial results, regeneration, and failure. A conventional library has no equivalent for these states, because conventional content is known at design time.

Can you work with our existing component library and tokens?+

Yes. Phoenux works inside existing systems as often as it builds new ones, and delivers additions that match your tokens, naming, and documentation conventions rather than sitting beside them as a separate set.
