Fix AI-built UI that looks wrong | Phoenux
You shipped something with Cursor, v0, or Lovable. The demo looked fine. Then you used it like a real product and it felt off. Spacing wanders. Buttons don't match. Empty states are blank. Every screen looks like a template of a template.
That is a design problem, not a "prompt harder" problem.
My v0 app looks generic
AI UI often lands in the same groove: soft purple accents, big rounded cards, hero layouts that could belong to any SaaS. It isn't that tools are bad. They optimize for something that looks finished fast. Finished-fast and clear are not the same thing.
If strangers can't tell what your product does in five seconds, more generation usually makes it louder, not clearer.
AI UI looks the same
When every screen shares the same card, the same padding, and the same type size, people don't trust the product. They've seen that look before. Hierarchy is what breaks the sameness: one primary action, quieter secondary actions, type that shows what matters.
Pixels without hierarchy still read as slop.
What DIY tools fix vs what they don't
Tools are good at: scaffolding screens, inventing components, filling a page.
They are weak at: a shared type scale, named tokens, empty / loading / error states, permission-aware screens, and a cut list so the next feature doesn't invent a fifth button style.
If you only polish one screen, the next screen drifts. That is how "demo pretty / product messy" happens.
How to fix inconsistent AI-built SaaS UI
Before you generate again:
1. Inventory screens — list what exists. Kill orphans. 2. Kill duplicate patterns — one primary button, one card, one form layout. 3. Name tokens — color, space, radius, type. Stop hardcoding. 4. Define states — empty, loading, error, success, no-permission. Design those on purpose. 5. One type scale — fewer sizes, clearer ranks.
Do that once. Then generate inside the rules. More AI without rules multiplies the mess.
When a note isn't enough
